Central Square and Westway

This is the most visited part of Maghull as it is where the main shopping centre and largest health facility are located. We have tried to help lift this busy area with our pavement planters and barrier baskets to provide flashes of bright colour via both summer and winter planting. Our flowers contrast against the utilitarian buildings along Westway which can look drab. This was the site which first inspired our original volunteers to take action in 2008. We now have a group of volunteers who regularly deadhead the blooms to encourage more flower growth throughout each season.. Our work here is done with the co-operation and support of the shopping centre owners London & Cambridge Properties who provide water for our blooms.

The six small concrete planters in the Square needed attention.  We have now purchased surround cladding, made locally in sustainable timber, and their appearance will once again enhance the all year round planting.  This work was funded by the National Lottery.

We were delighted that our work in and around central Square was rewarded with a Gold Award and overall winner in the Communal garden category of Maghull Garden Festival 2021
